Drum Beat Academy focuses on the training of people in tourist guiding, event support, and hospitality in the tourism industry. Experiential learning is utilised as the primary training technique, enabling learners to learn through personal experimentation. Our team consists of people with expertise in practical guiding as well as assessment and facilitation. The team members are qualified in the programmes they facilitate. Tourist Guide Training (Culture/Nature Guides, Site Guides) The Tourist Guide Training Qualification will enable you to create innovative and exciting guided experiences. A qualified guide will be able to contribute positively towards the guiding sector as a part of South Africa’s tourism industry. When the Tourist Guide Training Qualification has been achieved the guide will be capable of combining a range of life-long learning skills and knowledge of South African tourism issues, integrating these within a context to produce multi-skilled guiding practices. It is therefore possible that once the Tourist Guide Training Qualification has been achieved to further ones learning, practice and career within the guiding sector or other sectors of the tourism industry. First Aid Level 1 Training First Aid Level 1 Training is for persons required to assess the emergency situation and providing basic Life Support and basic First Aid in order to stabilise patients prior to the arrival of Emergency Services. People that have undergone First Aid Level 1 Training will be able to: demonstrate an understanding of emergency scene management, demonstrate an understanding of elementary anatomy and physiology, assess an emergency situation, apply First Aid procedures to the life-threatening situation and treat common injuries. It is important to remember that all qualified tourist guides that want to register need to have a valid First Aid Level 1 qualification. The Tour Operator Training Workshop will enable any person who owns or wants to start a business which transports paying tourists and makes arrangements for the clients (accommodation, transport, schedule itinerary, meals and outings). The Tour Operator Training Workshop covers a wide variety of topics and will give a holistic overview of the essential knowledge required to be successful tour operator. The Tour Operator Training Workshop focuses on: Vision, mission, strategic objective of a tour operator’s business; Legal issues of a tour operator’s business; Framework of the business plan; Marketing and sales of a tour operator’s business; Development of tour packages and itineraries; Financial management and administration of a tour operator’s business; Costing of a tour; Operations and management and of a tour; Accommodation management and transport arrangements. Event Support Training In the context of the event industry, the Event Support Training Course will enable creative support to innovative exciting events. A learner who has completed the Event Support Training Course will be able to contribute positively towards supporting the event industry as a part of South Africa’s tourism sector. After the Event Support Training Qualification has been achieved it will be possible to combine a range of self-organisation and life-long learning skills with a working knowledge of South African Tourism issues, and integrating these within a context to produce a multi-skilled practice. Hospitality Training We offer a wide range of Hospitality Training in the tourism industry. These Hospitality Training courses cover a wide range of topics and functions that are prevalent in the hospitality and tourism sectors.
